ROCKLAND, Me., July 1- Harold C. Haskell, former general counsel and a director of E. I. du Pont de Nemours & Co. of Wilmington, Del., died yesterday at Knox County General Hospital here. His age was 72.
Born in Rockland, he had been living in Rockport since his retirement' in 1953. In that year, Tufts College-of which he was a graduate-elected him a life trustee.
Mr. Haskell graduated from Harvard Law School in 1909, In World War I he served as a first lieutenant in the field artillery.
He practiced law in Boston until 1924, when he became head of the legal department of the Hood Rubber Company of Watertown, Mass. He held that position until 1930, when he joined du Pont as assistant head of its legal department.
Mr. Haskell became director of the du Pont legal department in 1940, a director in 1941 and general counsel in 1950. Until his retirement in 1953 he had served for several years as a member of the board of directors of the Security Trust Company of WiImington.
He is survived by his widow, the former Miss Ruth Annie Sibley.
