BLUE HILL - Basil A. Grindle, 88, died July 3, 2009, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Dec. 10, 1920, in Blue Hill, the son of Ernest L. and Rena M. (Gross) Grindle.
Basil attended schools in Blue Hill. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II. Basil was seen much of the time cutting wood on his Wood Mizer. He enjoyed spending time in Grindleville. Basil was a member of American Legion Post No. 85, Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Mountain Rebekah Lodge No. 87, all of Blue Hill. He was a former member of the school board at George Stevens Academy.
He is survived by his daughters, Barbara Grindle, and Jane McVay and husband, Raymond, all of Sedgwick; sons, Robert of East Hartford, Conn., Jack and wife, Barbara, Thomas and wife, May, and Roger and wife, Susan, all of Blue Hill; 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Georgene Allen and husband, George, of Brooklin; brother, Jerold Grindle and wife, Bonnie, of Blue Hill; sister-in-law, Vergelia Gray of Blue Hill; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his dear wife of 66 years, Nora; son-in-law, Burton Grindle; grandson, David Grindle; and great-granddaughter, Jennie Overlock.
