ROCKLAND - Arlene Bisbee, 97, died peacefully, Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at the Knox Center for Long Term.
Born in Rockland, August 19, 1914, she was one of seven children of Maynard W. and Mae Eaton Gray. She was educated in Rockland schools.
On September 12, 1933, she married Arthur D. Bisbee, Jr. The couple made their first home on Philbrook Avenue, and in 1948 purchased a home on Jefferson Street. That home became the hub for their family, where with her husband, Mrs. Bisbee raised her daughters.
In earlier years, she attended Littlefield Memorial Baptist Church and was a member of the Eastern Star.
A devoted mother and grandmother, she was happiest when she was ‘in the middle’ of any family gatherings. During her daughters’ school years, she was involved in most of their activities and often chaperoned school events. At one time, she made all the skirts for the Rockland Tiger Cheerleaders.
Watching soap operas, knitting, sewing, cross-stitching and crocheting, were all pastimes she enjoyed. She also took pleasure in teaching her granddaughter many of these crafts.
Mrs. Bisbee was pre-deceased by six siblings; her beloved husband Arthur on January 7, 1981; her eldest granddaughter, Cindy Shaw in 2002; and her son-in-law Earl S. Whitney in 2008. She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Whitney of Rockland, Jeanette Martin and her husband Robert of Swanzey, NH; two grandchildren, Cindy Frazier and her husband Randy of Swanzey, NH, Heidi Dudley and her husband Donald of Rockland; five great-grandchildren, Alan and James Frazier, Heather Myer, Kristen Kearney, Sara Pledger; five great-great-grandchildren, Hannah, Justin, Lillian, Brennen and Emily; as well as many nieces and nephews.
