Harold Sidney Brooking of Treherne, Manitoba, dearly beloved husband of Elsie passed away on Saturday, May 4, 1991 at the Tiger Hills Health Center, Treherne, Man. at 80 years of age.
Born February 17, 1911 in the Treherne District, Harold spent most of his life in the area. On March 28, 1938 he married Elsie Simpson, later serving his country during World War II from 1940 to 1945 with the Royal Canadian Air Force, then working on road construction in the Brandon area for a time. In 1952 he began blacksmithing in Treherne and continued until 1979 during most of which period he also farmed in the Matcherrville District.
Harold was always an avid and committed community supporter serving on the School, Hospital, Museum and Legion Lodge Boards. He was a member of the Treherne Fire Dept., had been a Legion Zone Commander and had been District Deputy Grand Master of the 3rd Masonic District. He had been a member of Treherne Legion, Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star and an active member of the Treherne United Church. After several years as town councillor, Harold served as Mayor of Treherne for 5 years. In later years Harold became an avid genealogist and had served as chairman of the Treherne History Book.
Harold leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Elsie, one son Barrie and wife Dorothy of Minnedosa, Man.; one daughter, Barbara and husband Ray Pettinger of Shoal Lake, Man.; five grandchildren, Cary and wife Charlene Pettinger, Tannis Pettinger, Michelle, Brett and Chad Brooking; two great grandchildren, Khalicia and Carlyle Pettinger and one brother Leslie and wife Gladys.
He was predeceased by his father Sidney in 1958, his mother Inez in 1970, by one brother Charles in 1947 and by one sister Eileen McKinnon in 1990.
