Following his retirement, Richard continued his association with Stouffer's as a marketing consultant.
Richard married Stouffer dietician Jeanette Pietron in Chicago on May 17, 1950. Following his retirement, Richard and Jeanette started another chapter in their lives by devoting time to their hobby of showing and breeding championship miniature schnauzers. Richard was preceded in death by wife Jeanette, his parents, sisters Elizabeth "Bette" Marvin and Mary Morin, and brother William "Bill" Haskell.
