EASTON -- Samuel Ives Cross died on June 10, 2013, in Easton, where he was a lifelong resident. He was 18 years old.
He was a graduate of The Country School and a 2012 graduate of Sts. Peter and Paul High School in Easton. A natural athlete, Sam was a member of the Sts. Peter and Paul varsity soccer, varsity lacrosse and varsity tennis teams. He was in the Architectural, Construction and Engineering (ACE) Mentoring Program, and was formerly a lifeguard at the Talbot County Country Club. He recently completed his freshman year at the University of Tampa and was yet undecided about his field of study. Just this week, Sam was to begin a summer job as a sailing instructor at the Miles River Yacht Club.
Sam was well known in his community and had many friends who loved him. He loved sailing, boating, fishing, nature, music, long-boarding and playing Frisbee with his friends. Sam had a love of life, a smile for all, and a genuine, open heart.
Sam is survived by his father, Frederic Newbold Cross; his mother, Jane Gillern Cross; and his beloved brother, Charles Redmond Cross, who is a junior at Sts. Peter and Paul High School. Sam is also survived by his paternal grandmother, Sally Smith Cross of Concord, Mass.; his maternal grandmother, Jane Burkehouse Gillern of Baltimore; and his many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandfathers, William Redmond Cross Jr. and Edward M. Gillern Sr.
