Garry William Knowlton, 71, of Sneads Ferry, N.C., died July 7, 2006, at his home after a lengthy illness.
Born in Salem, the son of the late George F. and Marjorie L. (Hatch) Knowlton, he was raised and educated in Beverly.
He was retired from the U.S. Army Special Forces at Fort Bragg and from the Marine Corps Engineer School at Courthouse Bay, Camp Lejeune.
Mr. Knowlton is survived by his wife, Erika D. Knowlton; his son, Thomas Knowlton of St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands; his son, Christopher and his wife, Anne Knowlton, of King George, Va.; his daughter, Carolyn K. Pugh of Greenville, N.C.; his sisters, Marilyn Harding of Jaffrey, N.H. and Beverly Fournier of Salem; a half-sister, Melody Knowlton of Anaheim, Calif.; three grandsons; and one granddaughter.
He was also the father of the late Philip Knowlton; half-brother of the late Kevin; and brother of the late Janice, Marjorie and Sandra.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated July 11 in Infant of Prague Catholic Church, followed by burial with military honors in the Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery at Camp Johnson, Jacksonville, N.C.
