• Notes

  Foster Haskell came at an early date from one of the Eastern States and settled in Mentor on a farm now (abt 1878) owned by his heirs where he lived until his death May 21, 1873. His wife died 18 Mar 1875. Six children, 5 living in 1878: Riley, Mrs. Alvin Daniels, Emily, Albert. All live in Mentor, William in Concord, George deceased. Wife of Mr. Haskell was Polly, eldest of 8 children of Scribner Huntoon who was an early settler in Concord, coming from New York. Reference History of Geauga and Lake County Ohio Page 250 _____ Foster was about 14 when he came with parents to Lake County. After assisting in the pioneer labor of clearing a homestead he worked at the carpenter's trade for a few years, after which he bought land in Mentor, just south of the present site of the Disciples church. Hopeful, courageous and persevering, he succeeded in improving a homestead, and until his death at the age of 73 years, was engaged in farming and carpentering. Prior to locating in Mentor, he lived for a while in Concord, and during the Mormon excitement was working for Grandison Newell, who ran an iron foundry.
