Born March 23, 1894, Clay City, Illinois. Family later moved to Owensville Indiana.
Employee of Goodyear Factory, Akron Ohio.
Enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on July 13, 1917 in Evansville Indian
Survived by widow, Theota M. Jaquess of Fort Branch, Indiana
Sent to Paris Island, S.C. Transferred to Quantico , VA. Overseas in June 1918.
Killed in Action on October 4, 1918, Mont Blanc Ridge.
Buried at the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial outside of Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, France

In October 1918, Mont Blanc Ridge (Champagne region of France) was the high point of the German defensive line of trenches known as the Hindenburg Line. The French and British armies had lost thousands of soldiers trying to take Mont Blanc Ridge since 1914. On October 2, 1918 the Americans relieved the exhausted French Army, at the base of Mont Blanc Ridge. The next morning at 5:50AM, the 6th Regiment of the 4th Marine Brigade, formed the 1st wave of attack on Mont Blanc Ridge. They succeeded in capturing the ridge in less than 3 hours. Because the French did not cover their flanks,the 6th Marine Regiment was isolated and surrounded on top of the ridge. They were attacked on all sides by the Germans. The 5th Regiment, U.S. Marines finally came to their rescue, and by late afternoon of October 4th Mont Blanc Ridge was secured. For the United States, October 4, 1918, was one of the bloodiest days of the entire war.
