MURRELLS INLET -- William Buck Norwood, 85, of Mount Gilead, died Monday, Aug. 25, 1997, at Columbia Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. He was born Oct. 13, 1911, in Marion, a son of the late Samuel and Albertine Buck Norwood.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific. He was a graduate of Clemson University with a bachelor's degree in agricultural education, and he also did graduate work at Iowa State University.
Mr. Norwood taught math in several local schools and was a former auditor of Marion County. He was a member of Belin United Methodist Church and a developer of the Mount Gilead community.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Parrott Norwood; a son, William Norwood Jr. of Mount Pleasant; a sister, Louisa Haskell of Marion; two grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Belin Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home. Memorials may be made to Murrells Inlet-Garden City Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 672, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576. Goldfinch Funeral Home, beach chapel, is in charge.
