KENNETH C. TANKE Crown Point, Indiana Kenneth C. Tanke, of Crown Point, was born July 28, 1926 in Fremont, Nebraska, to Alfreda Dorthea (Kielstrup) Tanke and Otto Hans Leopold Tanke, passed away Friday, March 28, 2008.
He is survived by his wife Mary Jean (Pierson) Tanke; his children, Stephanie, John (Valerie); two grandsons, Matthew and Michael.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, and 1 sister. Surviving siblings are Keith Tanke, Janet Salak, and Linda Love.
During High School, Ken was a Nebraska state champion back stroker. Ken was an Army Air Corps and served in Japan During World War II. He graduated from George Williams College, and was employed by the YMCA. Ken was instrumental in starting Y Indian Guides in South Bend, working with chiefs from the Blackhawk tribe. He later was employed by Inland Steel, where he was an accountant and foreman inthe 4BOF. Ken was a member of DeMolay and received the Legion of Honor Award. He also was a Mason and belonged to Roosevelt Lodge #678.
