- OBITUARIES
It is with deep regret that we announce the death of Albert Edwin Haskell on 22 October 1993 in Berkeley, Alameda, California. Al was a charter member of the International Haskell Family Association and its first president from 1987-1989 and as a Life member of the association he was a staunch supporter of both the I.H.F.A. and the H.F.A.
Albert is survived by his widow Barbara (Ritter) Haskell, three sons, William B., Charles F., and George E., his brother Richard E. Haskell of Greensburg, PA and Old Orchard Beach, ME and several grandchildren.
Albert was the son of William O. and Florence (Thurrell) Haskell. His grandfather Edwin James Haskell was the General Manager of the Haskell Silk Mill in Westbrook, ME founded in 1874 by his great-grandfather, James Haskell of Rockport, MA and Westbrook, ME.
Al was born 1 March 1917 in St John, New Brunswick, but grew up in New England, mostly in Connecticut. He received his BS in Economics and History from Trinity College in Hartford, CT and MBA from Harvard Business School. His career in insurance started with the Aetna Life Insurance Co., but was interrupted twice by service in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean conflict. He left active duty as a Lt. Commander, then attained the rank of Captain in the Supply Corps of the U.S. Naval Reserves.
His insurance career took him to, South Carolina, Texas, and Cincinnati, OH. After positions as Business Manager for the Cincinnati Health Dept. and office manager for a law firm, he finally settled in the Bay area of California as Office Manager for Local 70 of the Teamsters Union in Oakland. Al also served one tour of duty as president of the Oakland Navy League after he retired.
Our deepest sympathy is extended to Albert's widow Barbara, his sons and their families and to his brother Dick. He will be missed.
