Ellen Pero of Marblehead died Tuesday at Massachusetts General Hospital after a brief illness. She was 56.
Born in Revere, Mrs. Pero was a 1963 graduate of Marblehead High School. She also graduated from House in the Pines in Norton and Robie Secretarial School in Boston.
She was a lunch aide and crossing guard at Coffin School in Marblehead. Previously, Mrs. Pero was a carrier for the Marblehead Reporter and Salem Evening News. She also was employed at State Street Bank in Boston, the Marblehead Savings Bank and the former Bank of Boston in Marblehead.
Mrs. Pero assisted with the scoring and treasurer responsibilities of the Marblehead Racing Association. She was on the Parade Committee of the town's 350th anniversary committee and volunteered at the Star of the Sea parish. Mrs. Pero was also the secretary of the Old Marblehead Improvement Association.
In her youth, she was a member and senior treasurer of the Pleon Yacht Club.
Mrs. Pero is survived by her husband, Tony; three daughters, Joanna Thayer, Angela Marie and Victoria Ann, all of Marblehead; her mother, Mrs. Richard S. Thayer of Marblehead; and two sisters, Joan Thayer of Marblehead and Sarah Louise Thayer of Kodiak, Alaska.
