- The Salina Journal (KS)
January 15, 2013
Lawrence Randall "Randy" Lathan was born July 3, 1951, to Ralph and Delsie Lathan, in Salina, and passed away surrounded by family Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013.
Randy met Donna McLane in the fall of 1970, and they married March 9, 1979, in Salina. They made their home in Salina, welcoming two children, Lyle in 1979, and Laura in 1982.
Randy was a kind soul setting his own path even when it wasn't always easy to walk.
Randy made his living by his hands doing carpentry and construction. He never knew a stranger, and his kindness to help his fellow man was unparalleled. It was said "you can't go wrong with a man who animals and children were drawn to," and that was definitely him.
He raised several children outside of his two. He raised many nieces and nephews, but his greatest joy came when Harper J. made him a grandpa and she gained her "giant."
He is survived by his wife, Donna McLane Lathan; mother-in-law, Julie McLane; son, Lyle and wife Carolyn; and granddaughter, Harper, all of Salina; daughter, Laura Lathan Crawford and husband Matthew Crawford, of Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, several nieces, nephews and friends.
urial will follow in Gypsum Hill Cemetery.
