FORT PIERCE, FL -- Gerald L. Gravelle, formerly of Watervliet and Cohoes, NY, quietly passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2001 at his home in Florida after a prolonged illness. He was born in Troy, NY to parents, Richard Gravelle and Helen Farrington on September 21, 1942.
Beloved and respected husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He is survived by his wife of thirty-six years, Donna Simard Gravelle; two sons and his loving grandchildren.
In an environment of love, tolerance and hard work, he lived his life as a positive example to all who knew and loved him. Gathering family and friends around him, he was clearly an original. He was a man who occupied a unique place in the Legislative Messenger Service, located in the LOB, working his way from staff coordinator to assistant director for nearly 20 years. Along with disabled individuals, he provided a communication network throughout the Empire State Plaza and neighboring state buildings for both the Senate and Assembly Legislators and Staff members. Never a day passed that he did not give his all to those around him through his determination and dedication. No less dedicated to his avocation of humanitarian endeavor, he devoted 40 years encouraging, helping and inspiring others. Actively working for the Muscular Dystrophy Association by volunteering for a variety of fund raising activities including his unwaiving commitment since 1969 to the Jerry Lewis Telethon, thus being presented in 1992 with a Personal Achievement Award for service.

Gerald L. Gravelle, 58, of Vero Beach, died March 13, 2001, at his residence after a prolonged illness.
He was born Sept. 21, 1942, in Troy, N.Y., and moved to Vero Beach four years ago from Cohoes, N.Y.
Mr. Gravelle was an assistant director in the Legislative Messenger Service in New York, N.Y., for almost 20 years, serving the Empire State Plaza and neighboring state buildings for New York Senate and Assembly legislators and staff members prior to retirement.
Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Donna; two sons, Mark Gravelle, of Vero Beach, and Dennis Gravelle, of Saratoga, N.Y.; two brothers, Michael Gravelle, of Maryland and Joseph Chaput, of New York; and four grandchildren.
