CARLTON T. MANCHESTER SR., 83, of Starboard Avenue, an aircraft & engine inspector at the former Quonset Point Naval Air Station from 1946 until retiring in 1972, died Tuesday at home. He was the husband of the late Ruth E. (Parker) Manchester.
Born in Westport, Mass., a son of the late Elmer B. and Lillie F. (Taber) Manchester, he lived in Jamestown since 1947.
He had a book published called Pa And I.
He had also worked for the U.S. Army Engineers until 1942. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of VFW Post 9447, a member of the Jamestown Shores Association, the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Elisha Rhodes Camp 11 and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was a member of Central Baptist Church.
He leaves three sons, Carlton T. "Pede" Manchester Jr. and Samuel A. Manchester, both of Jamestown and William B. Manchester of Williamstown, Vt.; a daughter, Dorothy C. Manchester of Warwick; a sister, Amy A. Wordell of Little Compton; 3 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren, 20 stepgreat-grandchildren and 2 stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
He was father of the late John Manchester and brother of the late Dorothy, Elmer, James and Russell Manchester.
