Gladys (Baltucci) Martin, 79, died Oct. 27, 2007, at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth.
Born in Boston, she was a lifelong resident of Hingham, graduating from Hingham High School in 1947. From 1947 through 1969, she performed domestic duties in private homes and nursing homes. Mrs. Martin then became a social worker with the Massachusetts Welfare Department, where she was involved with the food stamp program by interviewing and certifying clients, issuing identification cards, maintaining master files and statistical reports.
She also trained and supervised youth workers on temporary, part-time and summer placements. Following the storm disaster of 1978, she aided the Scituate center with certification of applicants for food stamps for the duration of the emergency.
Mrs. Martin had been an active member of the Dorothy Bradford Chapter No. 135 Order of the Eastern Star in Hingham since 1980, serving as Worthy Matron from 1990 to 1991.
Wife of the late Leslie I. Martin, she leaves her daughter, Deborah L. Sirois of Kingston; her brother, Donald E. Baltucci of Hingham; her stepchildren, Deborah A. Clark and Donald G. Martin, both of Pembroke, Cheryl L. West of Marshfield and Skip Martin of Kingston; six step-grandchildren; six step-great- grandchildren; and several step-nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Ronna Lee Sirois, and the sister of the late Barbara Nix.
