Darrell Lamar Gilbert 75, died Thursday September 7th, 2006 at Ogden Regional Medical Center.
Darrell was born October 20, 1931 in Ogden Utah, a son of Frank and Hazel Gilbert. Raised in Hooper Utah, he moved to Ogden in 1943. He was sad because he had to sell his horse and buy a bicycle. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1949. He attended Weber State College where he earned his associates degree. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Marriott-Slaterville 2nd Ward.
He married Merlene Singleton on November 19, 1954. He lived in Marriott-Slaterville for the past 44 years. He was a truck driver for B & T Truck Lines in Brigham City and Consolidated Freight Lines for many years. In 1974 he followed his passion for classic car restoration and autobody repair, working for Iron Horse Auto-body until his retirement.
The past 20 years he was a member and past President of The Thunderbird Motor Club of Utah, where he enjoyed the company of many special friends.
He is survived by his wife Merlene of Marriott-Slaterville; son Douglas (Lynnette) Gilbert of Hooper UT; daughter Susan (David) Holden of Atlanta, GA; and grandchildren, Andrew and Heather Gilbert. Also surviving is his brother Mark (Shirlee) Rich AZ; half siblings Carl (Diane) Gilbert and Debbie (Mene) Wong.
Darrell was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Hull Rich, father, Frank Gilbert and stepmother Lois Gilbert. Also sister Marsha Rich Bowman, half-brother Dean Gilbert, and half-sisters Cathy Biddle, and Vicky Nelson.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday September 14th at 11 a.m. at Leavitt's Aultorest Memorial Park. Friends and family are invited to attend a viewing at Leavitt's Mortuary, 836 36th St. Ogden, Utah on Wednesday September 13th from 6 to 8p.m. and one hour prior to the services at the mortuary.
