  The Deseret News (Salt Lake City, UT) August 27, 1999 Kevin Reed Merrell, age 41, passed away August 24, 1999 in a scuba diving accident at Deer Creek Reservoir. He was born August 27, 1958 in Washington DC, the 5th child of Burdell and Nyal Merrell. Kevin married Cheryl Wilcox on December 6, 1997. He resided in Orem at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife Cheryl, his children Cali, Alyssa and Macy Merrell, and his stepchidren, Brian and Christine Wilcox. He is also survived by his parents, two sisters, Jacki Neibaur, Kendra Scoresby, and five brothers, Durk Merrell, Blair Merrell, Stuart Merrell, Quinn Merrell, and Barry Merrell. Kevin attended Ricks College and the University of Utah where he earned a BS in Exercise Physiology. Kevin was an employee of Novell. Kevin was an avid sportsman who enjoyed a wide variety of adventures including basketball, scuba diving, and camping. Kevin was an active member of the LDS Church. He served in the Chile Santiago South Mission from 1978-80. Kevin loved children and was a devoted and caring father. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
