Richard M Groom was called home early Saturday morning, October 15, 2016, from complications following a recent fall off a ladder. He spent the last hours of his life with his wife and two of his daughters loudly cheering for his beloved BYU Cougars, who won in double over-time. He was fortunate to leave this life doing what he enjoyed.
Richard was born on July 18, 1956, in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Max and Ruth Groom. He grew up in Idaho and graduated from Rigby High School with high honors in 1974. After serving a two-year LDS mission to Sweden, he married his sweetheart Linda Gayle Pullman in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Richard graduated Suma Cum Laude from Brigham Young University and attended medical school at the University of Washington in Seattle. Following his graduation from medical school he completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynocology (OB/GYN) in Las Vegas, Nevada. He and his family made Las Vegas their home and he began his medical practice there in 1988.
Richard was a dedicated, caring physician who loved his patients and always went the extra mile to provide the best care possible. His skills as a surgeon were recognized in the medical community. Many thoughtful acts of service were quietly rendered to others in need or simply given as a gesture of kindness.
Richard not only works hard but plays hard when given the opportunity. He loves the mountains and the great outdoors. He is passionate about snowboarding on the challenging slopes of Brian Head and making exquisite furniture for his cabin. Richard deeply loves his dogs and finds great enjoyment and comfort when they are by his side.
Richard's greatest love is his family and his faith, which characterizes his life and the great man that he is. He is beloved by his family and will be in their hearts. He is survived by his wife Linda and daughters, Ashley Finlinson (Matt); Alicia Dastrup (Matt); Kelsey Webster (Clint), Melissa Williams (Tyson); Alexis Groom and nine grandchildren who were the joy of his life. Also surviving him are his parents, Max and Ruth Groom, and three sisters and sister-in-law, Marcia Johnson (Bruce); Rhonda Terry (Roger); Diane Covington; and Karla Groom. His brother Bryan (deceased four years ago) was there to welcome him home.
