Dora Otis, age 89, of Isle, passed away on September 6, 2012 at Mille Lacs Health System in Onamia.
Dora Ethel Otis was born on February 7, 1923 to Harold and Ethel (Brown) Domm in Minneapolis, MN. She was raised through the tenth grade in Columbia Heights, MN. The family moved to Minneapolis and she graduated from Edison High School in June of 1940. She married Ralph Perry Otis November 15, 1941. She worked for Chicago Ordinance for three years while Ralph was in the Army to help England win World War II. After 20 years in south Minneapolis, they moved to Coon Rapids where she went to work at FMC for 16 years, when Ralph died in 1985, she had their cabin on Lake Mille Lacs removed and a permanent home built. She was President of the Isle Senior Club for 10 years. She was a member of the Happy-go-Lucky's and performed in all but two of the Silver Threads Reviews. She was elected Mille Lacs Senior Citizen one year and Mother of the Year another time. She marched in the Isle Days Parade with the VFW Auxiliary for several years. Health problems slowed her down, but she still enjoyed playing 500 and cribbage. Dora also enjoyed making and giving her various crafts.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph; her infant son Leonard; her daughter Linda, grandson Danny, sister Carroll, and daughter-in-law Judy Otis.
Dora is survived by her children Elaine (Joe) Tryman, David Otis, Neil (Lorrie) Otis, Patrick (Beverly) Otis, Wendy (David) Green, Warren Otis, sister-in-law Evelyn Rae, brother Allen Domm; 15 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.
