ELIOT, Maine - Thelma Hutchins, 88, of Eliot, died on Wed-nesday, October 18, 2017, at York Hospital. Born in Haverhill, New Hamp-shire on October 22, 1928 she was a daughter of the late Dana and Bertha Huntress. She was raised in and attended local schools in South Berwick Maine.
Sister, Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, companion and dear friend; we are saddened by the loss of a great woman as she went to be with the lord on October 18, 2017.
She was a long time upholstery stitcher with her close friend Roger Aiguire. She enjoyed knitting and sewing for family and friends. At the age of 79 she learned to read and wrote her autobiography which is on file at the Maine Historical Society. Thelma was a Past Matron of Sarah Orne Jewett Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and Grand Representative of Maine to Ontario. She had been a member of OES for sixty two years.
She is survived by her daughters Carol Hutchins of Portland, Maine, and Roberta and Jeff Cutting of Eliot, Maine; grandchildren Erick and Heidi Swanson of New Britain, Conn., Melisa Matias and her husband Noel of Deltona, Fla., Kristine Smith and her husband Justin of Grain Valley, Mo., Julie Cutting-Kelly and her husband Darren of South Berwick, Maine; two great-grandchildren Myles and Camila Matias; her sister Dora Flynn and her husband Daniel of Dover, N.H.; and her life companion Merle Molasky of Eliot, Maine.
She was predeceased by her brothers Roland and Dana O. Huntress Jr.
