  A.T. Hutchins Funeral and Cremation Services Lawrence (Nick) L. Nickerson, 83, of Portland, died peacefully Tuesday morning, September 20th, surrounded by his family after a long courageous battle with cancer. Born in Portland, Larry was the son of Herschel and Louise (Sawyer) Nickerson. He graduated from Deering High School in 1952. Lawrence had a tremendous work ethic and had a career as a claims adjuster for Merchants Mutual Insurance Company and for Maine Bonding. He spent many evenings working at events at the Portland Exposition Building. After retiring, he continued to work as a driver for various organizations until his early 80's. Nick married Patricia Murphy on July 31st, 1954 and together they raised their five children. In his spare time, Nick enjoyed woodworking and fixing anything that needed fixing. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and planning extensive family cruises. Lawrence was pre-deceased by his son Daniel (Bucky) Nickerson, his parents, and his twin brother Linwood. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Murphy; his sons Edward Nickerson and his wife Nancy; Eugene Nickerson and his wife Linda; Jere Nickerson and his wife Julie; daughter Cheryl Nickerson-Nutter and her husband Bill; grandchildren, Kathryn, Moreen, Christian, Maria, Rebecca, Shannon, Matthew, Jennifer, Jack, Ella; 4 great grand-daughters; sister Lois Mott, and numerous nieces and nephews.
