Donna Leah Dlugolenski Schietinger, proud and beloved wife of the late, William B Schieitnger Jr, made a peaceful journey into heaven Saturday, December 13, 2014.
She was born July 11, 1939 in Bridgeport to the late, Mary and Stanley Dlugolenski.
Nobody rooted harder for the underdog more than Donna except when it came to Baseball. An avid New York Yankees fan since childhood, she lived baseball throughout the year and shared many boisterous phone conversations with one of her close friends and die hard Redsox fan, Shelia Lynch. The memory of Donna's extraordinary talent will live on through her beautiful porcelain dolls, carousel horses, and sewing creations. Her generous heart led her to gift most of those precious handmade items to loved ones or donate them to causes that were close to her heart. As a parishioner of St Patrick's church for many years, Donna was very fortunate to make special and loving friendships that lasted throughout her lifetime. She enthusiastically volunteered for Parish functions, fairs and bazaars. She was also a passionate member of the Home School Assoc. at St. Patrick's School where all six of her children attended. She served as coach for the Girls Basketball and Softball teams, was a substitute Gym teacher and also volunteered at the school Bingo every Tuesday evening with her very good friend, George Gottschalk. Donna and her two good friends, Barbara Porter and Fran Skopp, were the brownie and Girl Scout leaders of Troop 93. They had a unique way of making even the most mundane tasks a lot of fun. Donna's last place of employment, Joann's Fabrics, was her home away from home. Her love of sewing and creativity along with being able to share her talent and knowledge were the main reasons for working. Unfortunately, due to health reasons, Donna was forced to retire but continued to boost their sales by being Joann's #1 customer.
Left behind with many wonderful and HAPPY memories of their Mom are Donna's six children; Paul Schietinger, and his wife, Rita, Colleen Manowski, and her husband, Denis, DarylAnn Cachina, and her husband, Joseph, Mary Platero, and her husband, Jose, Patricia Roberts, and her husband, Scott, and Bill Schietinger, and his wife, Tracy. The brightest lights of Donna's life were her 10 grandchildren; Christopher and Joey Platero, Sandra VanGorden, Justin Schietinger, Missy Manowski, Tristan Schietinger, Thomas and Darcy Schietinger, Ethan and Ty Roberts; along with her 2 great grandchildren, Jayden Platero and Ameelah Carswell ; and loving dog Mickey. Also left to cherish her memory are Donna's three siblings; Stanley Dlugolenski, Joan Lashier, and her husband, Bob, and Judy Justice, and her husband Rick; along with her 3 loving sister-in-laws; Nancy Schietinger, Trudy Sheedy and Louise Dlugolenski and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
