  Capital Journal (Pierre, SD) April 29, 2013 Jan. 8, 1926-April 25, 2013 Ken R. Jennings, 87, of Pierre, died Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Pierre. Kenneth Richard Jennings was born Jan. 8, 1926, in Fort Pierre, S. D. to Robert and Lucile (Pengra) Jennings. He grew up 10 miles south of Fort Pierre near the existing Jennings Ranch. He attended school in Fort Pierre, graduating in 1945. On May 30, 1945, Ken enlisted in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged on Nov. 13, 1946. He returned home early to help his family after his father died in an accident. Soon after his return, he started working with the construction crew on building the Oahe Dam and later the Big Bend Dam. After construction of the Big Bend Dam, Ken then took a position as a maintenance worker for the Corps of Engineers where he worked for 23 years until his retirement. Ken was united in marriage to Beverly Jones on Feb. 4, 1961, at St. John's Catholic Church in Fort Pierre. Ken was a huge fan of the Green Bay Packers, the New York Yankees and any sporting event that the Stanley County Buffalos were involved in - particularly football and basketball. He enjoyed going to Minneapolis many times to watch his Yankees play the Minnesota Twins as well as going to Lambeau Field to watch his Green Bay Packers beat the Minnesota Vikings. He was a life member of the VFW Post 2038, a life member of the Pierre Elks Lodge #1953, a member of the Fort Pierre American Legion Post 20, Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the Circle 8 Square Dance Club. Ken enjoyed gardening, attending the Friday sales at the Fort Pierre Sale Barn and going for walks and loved spending time with his daughters. He is survived by his wife, Beverly, of Pierre; two daughters, Terri (Rick) Pleinis of Aberdeen, S. D., and Tanya (Kevin) Noble of Spicer, Minn.; asister-in-law, Mary Jennings, of Fort Pierre; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lucile Jennings; brothers, Darrell Sr. and Robert; and sister Dorothy Fox
