  Portland Press Herald (ME) September 16, 1994 Sidney Pearl Billings, 91, of Mechanic Street died Wednesday at Windward Gardens in Camden. He was born on Little Deer Isle, a son of Capt. Pearl F. and Flavilla Bray Billings. At a very young age, Mr. Billings worked with his father and uncles building the Bay Coaster Mercantile (now one of the Windjammer fleet). At the age of 16 he began working as a yacht crewman, starting as a deck hand and working up to first mate, then to diesel engineer. After retiring from yachting, he bought a farm in Warren. He worked the farm for several years, then moved here and worked for Albert Lavensaler as a carpenter. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His wife of 57 years, Lettie Douglass Eaton Billings, died previously. Surviving are a sister, Nettie Douglass of Penobscot; five brothers, Ralph of Rockland, Robert of Newton, Pa., Raymond of Holly Hill, Fla., Austin of Columbia Falls and Sheldon of Newport Beach, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Gertrude Eaton Merrill of Rockland; two stepgranddaughters, a stepgrandson; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; and nine stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
