  The Ottumwa Courier February 18, 2015 BLOOMFIELD — Richard Lee Smithart, 75, of Bloomfield, died at 12:09 a.m. February 18, 2015, at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield. He was born October 24, 1939, in Ottumwa to Harold and Margaret Sholes Smithart. He married Delores Jean Dennison, and they later divorced. Richard was a heavy equipment operator and logger, retiring in 2002. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local #234. Surviving are his children, David (Debra) Smithart of Ottumwa and Denise Olson of Centerville; four grandchildren, Shawn Smithart, Wendy Herndon, Wade Bassford and Ricky Smithart; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; his siblings, Hazel Harrison of Knoxville, LeRoy O'Laughlin of Medford, Oregon, Betty Mitchell of Des Moines, Robert O'Laughlin of Ottumwa, Judy Brandon of Ankeny, Joe Smithart of Ottumwa, Jerry Sholes of Ottumwa; half sister, Donna Kaylor of Des Moines; his partner, Judy Rime of Bloomfield.
