Mildred Alice Wanner Wilson, 87, of Wyomissing, passed away Dec. 19, 2009.
Born Nov. 27, 1912, to Alice Schaeffer and Charles Albright Wanner, she grew up in Fleetwood and graduated from George School, Bucks County, where she was known as "Millie."
She graduated in 1935 from the Connecticut College for Women with a bachelor of science. in sociology. After graduation, she worked in Reading as a social worker, placing and monitoring the welfare of children in foster homes.
She later studied library science and received her certification from Kutztown University and did volunteer work in her church and community libraries.
She met her husband, William W. Wilson Jr., as a sophomore at George School. They were married Aug. 15, 1936, at her parents' home in Fleetwood.
They lived in Fleetwood, where she helped to manage her family's business, until 1962.
They moved to West Chester in 1989 and lived at Hershey's Mill during their retirement years until they became residents at Columbia College in Wyomissing.
She was predeceased by her older brother, John Hugh Wanner.
Her survivors include her husband of 73 years; daughter MaryAnne Wilson Cowdrey of Dallas, Texas and son Charles A. W. Wilson of Reading; five grandchildren, Josh Wilson, Elizabeth Wilson Smith, Winn Wilson, Ann Marie Cowdrey Stewart and Joel H. Cowdrew III; and seven great grandchildren.
She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and also attended the Valley Friends Meeting of Chester County where her husband was a lifelong member.
