Gerald Orrin Onserud, 85, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully, Monday, February 25, 2008 at Kenosha Hospital.
He was born on a cold winter night in Trempleau County on January 19, 1923. Gerald was a son of the late Orrin and Alice (York) Onserud. He attended elementary school in Pleasantville, WI and High School in LaCrosse and West Salem, WI.
He served in the Army as a Staff Sgt. in the South Pacific during World War II (the big one) and was honorable discharged in February 1945.
He worked as a millwright at the Electric Auto Lite Company in LaCrosse from 1945 to 1959 where he met his wife Virginia Schneider. They were married in the Lutheran Parsonage in New Hampton, Iowa on May 11, 1949. They lived in West Salem, WI and moved to Kenosha in 1959 where he worked at American Motors as a millwright and also as a maintenance supervisor. He retired in 1985.
Gerald was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Danish Brotherhood, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Moose Lodge, UAW Local 72, and was a past member of the Sons of Norway.
Gerald enjoyed traveling, visiting relatives and being with friends and family. He loved remodeling his homes, doing wood working and fixing what ever needed to be fixed. He was an avid reader and enjoyed Zane Grey and Louie Lamour stories. He was an excellent card player and especially enjoyed bridge and cribbage. Gerald was a kind and gentle man who will be missed by family and friends.
Gerald is survived by his wife Virginia; his two sons Hal David Onserud of Santa Barbara, CA, Guy Howard Onserud of Kenosha; his daughter Sarah (Scott) Rusecki; his two grandsons Jason (Helen) Onserud of New York, Kyle Servais of Kenosha; his step grandsons Paul and Brian Campagna, Scotty Rusecki; his step great-grandchildren Joshua, Cory, Zachary, and Ella Campagna; his brother Ralph (Beverly) Onserud of West Salem, WI; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters.
