Claud Orland (Joe) Askew, a former Army serviceman, died Feb. 10, 2006, at his residence in Mt. Vernon. He was 72.
Mr. Askew was born Nov. 10, 1933, in Visalia, Calif., to Orland and Dora (Boyer) Askew. In 1955, he joined the U.S. Army and served at Fort Lewis in Washington State during the Korean War.
He enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Askew is survived by his daughters, Niki and husband, Eugene Fisher, of Indian Valley, Idaho, and Dodie and husband, Charles Hunt, of John Day; sons, Harvey Askew of Prairie City, Jack Askew of John Day, and Jim Askew and wife, Lorna, of John Day; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orland and Dora Askew; his wife, Vera; two brothers and one son, Timothy.
