  Maine Sunday Telegram (Portland, ME) October 25, 1998 Hubert S. Torrey, 48, died unexpectedly of heart failure on Oct. 18. He was born in Tokyo, a son of Gordon E. and Payson L. Torrey. He attended schools in Montclair, N.J., and Bar Harbor and was a student at the University of Maine, completing a degree in library science, at the time of his death. Mr. Torrey was active in student government and involved with several political organizations. He enjoyed writing, particularly poetry, and was very interested in literature, philosophy and art. Surviving are his mother, four sisters, a brother, four daughters and a grandson.
