  The Manhattan Mercury (KS) December 9, 2014 Gerald S. Hanna, 80, of Manhattan, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014. [sic] The family provided the following information. Mr. Hanna was in declining health and having long believed in the option of rational end-of-life decision-making, he died peacefully at home on his own terms. Jerry was born on Nov. 15, 1934, to the late Gladys (Haskell) and Howard Hanna in Long Beach, Calif., where he lived until his career took him to Tooele, Utah; Fairbanks, Ark.; New York City and Manhattan, Kan. In 1969 he became a mid-career Peace Corps volunteer and was assigned to the Ministry of Education in Western Samoa. While there, he met and worked with Atina Amosa and they were married in 1971. She preceded him in death in 2011. The couple returned to Manhattan in 1972 and were active in First Congregational Church and in numerous civic organizations. Jerry was a professor of educational psychology and authored and coauthored dozens of research articles, six standardized tests, and two books. He is survived by his three children, Tali Hanna Vinson and her husband, Marc Vinson, of Ely, Nev.; Gladys Fusi Hanna-White and her wife Theresa White, of Kansas City, Mo.; Howard Amosa Haskell Hanna of Kansas City, Mo.; and seven grandchildren: Vincent Amosa Hanna of Kansas City, Mo.; Sina Marie Hanna of Manhattan; Zeke Howard Amosa Vinson and Nafanua Gladys Anna Vinson of Ely; Robson Amosa Hanna-White of Kansas City, Mo.; and Jack Doss Keleti Hanna and Olive Corina Atalana Hanna of Prairie Village.
