CENTERVILLE - Joan Ludlow Feil died at Lakeview Hospital, April 23, 2007 due to complications from cancer and strokes after many chemotherapies, radiation, surgeries and rehabilitation . She was an example of strength and determination throughout these ordeals.
Joan was born on September 26, 1947 in Spanish Fork, Utah, daughter of Dean Stewart and Fawn Jex Ludlow. Joan grew up there and graduated from Spanish Fork High in 1965. She attended the College of Southern Utah (now SUU) for one year and graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelors Degree in Child Development and Elementary Education, 1969. She was a 2nd grade teacher for over 7 years at Fremont and Orchard Elementary Schools before resigning to raise her children. She enjoyed watching and supporting her children as they participated in various activities, sports and in developing their musical and theatrical talents. She was very happy with their accomplishments. More recently she taught 4th then 3rd and 2nd grades at Adelaide and West Bountiful Elementary Schools; she was a teacher in Davis School District for 25 years.
On June 7, 1971 she married Thomas Allen Feil in the Salt Lake Temple. They have four children. Joan was active in the Centerville 10th Ward, where she served in many positions including Primary Counselor, Teacher, Den Leader, Young Women Advisor, Relief Society Counselor and Ward Librarian.
Joan will be remembered for her dedication to family, church, neighbors, friends and her ability to reach and teach children who struggled in school. She was a significant influence in the lives of the many children where she taught.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas, Centerville and her children: Elizabeth, Provo; Stewart D., Provo; Richard D. (Marciann), Logan; Marylee (Michael) Farnsworth, Bountiful; beautiful granddaughter, Miriam Joan Farnsworth; brother, Sterling (Thayes) of Birdseye, UT; Mother, Spanish Fork.
She was preceded in death by her father and brother, Craig.
