  Portland Press Herald February 25, 1998 Raymond G. Thompson, 65, of Oak Hill Road died Monday at a Portland hospital. He was born here, a son of Raymond G. and Marion Cleveland Thompson, and was a 1950 graduate of Standish High School. Mr. Thompson served in the Air Force during the Korean War. From 1956 to 1959, he worked for Pratt & Whitney in Hartford, Conn. From 1960-1965, Mr. Thompson worked with his stepfather, Alec Whitney. He had also worked at the Limerick Mills Outlet. He then ran the Standish IGA (Whitney's Store) with his brother, Richard C. From 1986 until he closed the store in 1996, Mr. Thompson was sole owner. He worked there for more than 30 years. He was a member and vice president of Maine State Grocer's Association and he had served on its board of directors for 20 years. He was a member of the Standish Lodge of Masons, an avid snowmobiler and was active in several snowmobile associations. He attended the Standish Congregational Church. Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Jeanette McDonald Thompson; two sons, Raymond G. of Wilmington, N.C., and Paul W. of Standish; a daughter, Rebecca Thompson-Greaves of Portland; his brother of Standish; two aunts, Hazel Dow and Dorothy Southard; and eight grandchildren.
