Robert E. Dexter, 68, of 112 St. Joseph St., White Pigeon, died Jan. 27, 1997,at his home following an extended illness.
He was born May 8, 1928, in Grand Rapids, a son of Leonard an Beatrice (Covell) Dexter. A 1946 graduate of Lake Odessa High School, he moved from Tekonsha to White Pigeon 25 years ago.
On Sept. 15. 1957, he married Alice Faye DePew in Jonesville.
He retired as a sergeant form the Michigan State Police, where he served 40 years, 1956-1996, the last 25 years at the White Pigeon Post. He also served at posts in Jonesville, L'Anse and Tekonsha.
An active ember of the Mottville Bible Church I Mottville, he also was a past member, trustee, deacon and usher of Calvary Baptist Church in Marshall and the L'Anse Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Elizabeth Densmore of Littleton, Colo., Carolyn Horton of Burr Oak, and Marcy Dexter of Novi; two sons, Dan Dexter of White Pigeon and Matt Dexter of Phoenix, Ariz; five grandchildren, Michael and Carissa Densmore, Alissa Dexter, and Jeremy and Tanner Horton; his mother, Beatrice Brooks of Charlotte; four sisters, Jean McNutt of Saranac, Maxine Hascher of Muskegon, Heights, Shirley Cook of South Carolina and Doris Perry of Allegan; three brothers, Walter Dexter of Mason, David Dexter of Lake George, Lee Dexter of Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
