Daniel Leon Mahaffey, of The Villages, FL and Downers Grove, IL went to be with his savior on Tuesday, February 16, 2016. His 83rd birthday was recently celebrated in November.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 26th years, Lois Mahaffey; his son, Daniel Darren Mahaffey, (wife Kelli) of Chula Vista, CA; and daughters, Julie Campbell of St. Charles, IL, Maureen Parotto Miller (husband Robert) of Yorkville, IL, and Kelly Fleetwood (husband Mike) of Norfolk, VA; and stepsons, Brody Jandris (wife Mary) of Sugar Grove, IL and Ryan Jandris (wife Peggy) of Cannon Falls, MN. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
The oldest of five children, Daniel was born in Warsaw, ND to Leon and Catherine Mahaffey.
He is survived by siblings, Donna DeSmit and Joe Mahaffey of Kewaunee, IL, Mike Mahaffey of Flowery Branch, GA and Lorna Dobbels of Leesburg, FL.
He earned his bachelors and masters degree from Western Illinois University in McComb, IL. He was a Korean War veteran. His career was spent in the Downers Grove School District as a teacher, counselor, and a principal of O'Neil Jr. High for 30 years. Dan was an avid athlete that enjoyed running, tennis, swimming, golf, sailing and riding his recumbent bicycle.
