Mrs. Ettabel L. Brown of 203 Carlton Terrace, long prominent in Rockford church society died at 10:30 this morning in her home. Her death followed an illness of one week.
The daughter of Christopher and Annette M. Lander, pioneer residents of Rockford, Mrs. Brown was born Dec. 5, 1875 on a farm on Rockton avenue road, Rockford township. The family moved to the city in 1892.
She graduated from Central high school in 1893 and attended Emerson college in Boston the following two years. She later did kindergarten work in Chicago and was with Jane Addams, founder of Hull house.
On Jan 9, 1899 she married Oscar M. Brown in Chicago. Mr. Brown, who worked with American Insurance Company in Rockford died here on June 22, 1939.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Helen Giessel, a son, Malcolm L. Brown, both of Madison, Wis.
