  Central Maine Newspapers Augusta 21, 2015 WINTHROP - Janet Pray Richards, 80, passed away at her home on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2015, after a long illness. She was born in Pittsfield on May 29, 1935, the daughter of Irving Elwood and Rita Miles (Call) House. A graduate of Winthrop High School's class of 1954, Janet was involved in anything and everything that had to do with music. She was very proud to have been able to sing with Mr. Hilton's Novelty band. Janet married Kenneth W. Pray on June 18, 1955. Ken passed on March 22, 2005, after 50 wonderful years of marriage. On August 25, 2007, she and Marvin Richards were married. They loved to travel together and enjoyed nearly eight years together. Janet was a member of Winthrop United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the church choir. She was a Rainbow Girl and a member of O.E.S., Abnaki Chapter, where she was Past Matron and received the Grand Cross of Colors. She was also a Girl Scout leader, charter member of Coda Chorus, a Theta Ro Girl, Past Noble Grand of the Rebekah Lodge, and had the distinct honor of being the State soloist for the Rebekah Assembly of Maine. An animal lover all her life, Janet also loved singing and dancing, including square dancing, and enjoyed camping, reading and cooking. Her favorite hobby was that of collecting all kinds of angels and angel memorabilia. Janet will be lovingly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her. Janet was predeceased by her first husband, Kenneth; son-in-law "Skip" Neptune; and a brother, Joel House. She is survived by her husband, Marvin Richards of Winthrop; her two daughters, Cheryl Neptune and Lisa Pray Stevens and her husband, Donny, all of Winthrop; half-sister Valerie House Coffin of N. Monmouth; two aunts, Marilyn House and Johanne Macomber, both of Winthrop; three grandchildren, Joshua Neptune and wife, Ashley of Mt. Vernon, and Michelle and Nick Neptune, both of Winthrop; a great-grandson, Kaden Neptune; several cousins, one of whom was like a brother, David Rogers of Winthrop; and her dearest friend, Marion Cottrell, of Winthrop.
