  Beloit Daily News (WI) December 31, 2013 Harvey Cooper Smith, 93, of Beloit, WI, died Sunday, December 29, 2013 in Beloit Health & Rehabilitation Center. He was born June 26, 1920 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Charles and Frances (Nemez) Smith. Harvey was a WWII veteran. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942. When he was sent to New Orleans he met a Beloit, WI, WAC, Mildred Gibbs. They were the first service couple to be married on the base on May 27, 1944. Harvey served in the Military until 1949 when he returned to Beloit, WI, his wife' s hometown, to live and raise their four children. Harvey was employed by Fairbanks Morse and later by Woodward Governor in Loves Park. IL. In 1969, he and Mildred moved to Orange, CA, where they started their own business. Harvey wasn't ready to retire when they sold their business so he and Mildred became realtors, and then he became an inspector for the city of Garden Grove, CA. Harvey enjoyed several hobbies, making award winning miniatures, square dancing and traveling with his wife in their motor home after retiring. The one highlight of these trips was the rededication of the Statue of Liberty. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Smith of Beloit, WI; children, Gloria (Roger) Christiansen of Beloit, WI, Harvey (Janet) Smith II of Milton, WI, Scott (Cindy) Smith of Pollack, ID and Debra Smith of Beloit, WI; grandchildren, Nicole (Riad) Amro of Madison, WI, Jessica (Shawn) Lynnes of Janesville, WI, Nathanial Smith of Madison, WI, Rebecca (Bruce) Smith of Janesville, WI and Christopher Smith of Boston, MA; great grandchildren, Zak Amro, Noah Amro, Jenna Amro, Sumer Amro, Abby Lynes, Julie Lynes, Brianna Lynes and Madison Titus. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Arthur Smith.
