HARTLAND- Reverend Earle Tozier Jewell, 94, of Hartland, entered into eternal rest on Monday, February 23rd, 2015, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Alton Tibbetts, in Athens.
Earle was born November 28, 1920, at the family farm in Canaan to Leland and Ploomia Jewell. He attended Skowhegan High School graduating in 1938. He married the late Wilma (Gower) Jewell in November of 1940. He was employed by William Philbrick and Company of Skowhegan and Somerset Oil Company of Skowhegan. In later years, he studied at Bangor Theological Seminary and New Brunswick Bible Institute in New Brunswick, Canada. He pastored several churches in the area. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Canaan Grange, holding various positions through the years. He enjoyed time with his family, friends, and neighbors and had a special love for reading the Bible. In recent years, he attended Hartland Baptist Church.
Earle is preceded in death by his parents, Leland and Ploomia (Worcester) Jewell; his first wife, Wilma (Gower) Jewell; his second wife Arline (Parker) Jewell; and brother, Sheridan Jewell.
He is survived by a son, Ronald Jewell and wife, Penny, of Alfred; two daughters, Linda Tibbetts and husband, Alton, of Athens and Sonia Cross and husband, Lawrence, of Cypress, Texas; six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sister, Marjorie Tobey of Hendersonville, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Freda Jewell; and several nieces and nephews.
