James "Tero" Melvin Haskell Jr., 70, of Dirigo Road in Weeks Mills died Dec. 7, 2001, at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta after a long illness.
He was born in China, a son of James M. and Marion L. Bowman Haskell, attended school at Pigeon Plains in Weeks Mills and, for three years, Erskine Academy in South China. He served in the Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954 and attained the rank of sergeant. On Feb. 15, 1957, he married Rita J. Keller in East Vassalboro.
Mr. Haskell worked at Bates Manufacturing Co., Edwards Division, in Augusta, and on the farm at the former Augusta State Hospital. He worked at Lee Brothers Construction in Albion and drove a tank truck for Merrill Transport from 1965 to 1981. He enjoyed playing cribbage, was a Boston Red Sox fan and had a dog named Sally.
Surviving are his wife; three sons, Donald A. of Thomaston, Lee N. of Vassalboro and Ray J. of Readfield; a daughter, Patricia L. DesIsles of Vassalboro; a brother, Gary of Weeks Mills; four sisters, Georgia Watson, Betty Keene and Virginia Wellman, all of Palermo, and Vernie French of Weeks Mills; and 11 grandchildren.
