DURAND - Shirl W. Langley, of Durand went to be with Jesus on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, after a lengthy illness. He was born January 17, 1924, in Durand, to Matthew William Langley and Grace Elizabeth Baker.
Shirl married Darlene Boeger on Oct. 12, 1947.
He attended Durand schools and lived and farmed most of his life in the Durand area on the family farm, "Langleys' Pride Acres," retiring in 1993. Lifetime member of Winnebago County Farm Bureau and Durand United Methodist Church. Shirl loved bowling, playing cards, mowing his yard, fixing things and playing on his computer. His greatest love was his family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Shirl is survived by his wife of 60 years, Darlene; daughters, Sally Johnson of Rockford and Connie Langley of Durand; son, Terry (Susan) Langley of Riverton; grandchildren, Chad (Andrea) Johnson, Dawn (fianc Jerome Bernardes) Johnson; stepgrand-children, Kim (John) Patterson, Tricia Kelly; great-grandchildren, Sarah and Riley Johnson; stepgreat-grandchildren, Eric Kelly, Will and Max Patterson; honorary great-granddaughter, Brenna; numerous nieces and nephews; and caring in-laws, Gary and Sharon Boeger. Shirl is also survived by his special friends of the card club that he and Darlene were part of for 55 years, Alyce and Allen Roby, Duane and Carol Kinney, Jerry and Juanita Mulvain, Betty and the late Jack Yaun, Gayle and the late Terry Foss, and special card playing friend, Betty Ramsdell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Charolette Burton; and brothers, Glenn, Maurice and Bob.
