Barrett's final message: "To all of my friends and loved ones, my journey is over. My body and spirit have traveled to far distant shores. At different times my love and presence has been with each of you, enjoying you, learning from you, or even teaching you. You have been my mentor, my friend. I leave my children, Don, Leslie (Peter), and Gavin (Beth Ann), with pride in their achievements and love for what they are to me. I go in peace and my peace to each of you." Barrett died peacefully on October 5, 2011, at the age of 77, after a courageous seven-year battle with lung cancer.
