Donald Gordon MacKay, son of Murdock Roy and Vivian Hazel (Vickery) MacKay. The family moved to Newburgh, N.Y., and he was educated in the Newburgh schools until they moved to North Adams, where he attended Drury High School.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army. He entered the service on Sept. 24, 1945, and served as a private with the Transportation Detachment of the 1802nd Special Regiment at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal for his service. Following his honorable discharge on Dec. 6, 1946, he returned to North Adams.
He was employed with the former James Hunter Machine Company, North Adams and before his retirement in 1988 he was last employed for many years in the warehouse of the Sprague Electric Co., North Adams. Following his retirement, he was employed with the Landmark Credit Union in North Adams until his death.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church, North Adams, and the Sprague Quarter Century Club and Sprague Retirees.
He leaves his wife of 47 years, the former Lorraine M. Marceau, whom he married May 28, 1955, in Notre Dame du Sacre Coeur Church, North Adams, a sister, Mrs. Gene Kelly of North Adams, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
