Richard Albert Jacobson passed away at his home on Tuesday, December 13th, 2016 at the age of 85. Richard was born on December 2nd, 1931, to Clifford and Gertrude (Haskell) Jacobson.
He grew up in Grove City, MN and was baptized at First Baptist Church. Richard played basketball and football in high school. Music was very important to him and he sang in the chorus and played the coronet in the band. He graduated from Grove City High School in 1949. Following graduation, he worked for the Alaskan Railroad for six months and then enlisted in the US Navy in 1952. He served for four years including 13 months on the ship USS PCE 902 located on the Great Lakes. He was employed by Honeywell following his return from the service.
Richard met Arlene Hein on a blind date in October 1957. It was "love at first sight" and they married on June 28th, 1958 in Morris, MN. They were blessed with three daughters.
Dick and Arlene settled in Alexandria in 1969 and raised their family. They owned a Laundromat and he was employed by Alexandria Boat Works for nine years. Richard loved fishing and being outside and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid reader, a sharp Scrabble player and completed the Star Tribune crossword puzzle each day up until last week. He was a passionate sports enthusiast; cheering on the Vikings, Twins and Timberwolves from his easy chair. He was blessed with a beautiful voice and we will always remember how he would sing and hum catchy tunes almost the whole daylong. Richard was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church and his faith was very important to him.
He was survived by Arlene, his wife of 58 years, along with daughters Gail (Jerry) Leverson of Park Rapids, Val Ceroll of Harrisburg, SD, and Marilyn (Wayne) Craig of Alexandria. He had nine grandchildren and six great grandsons. He is also survived by his sister Marlene (Dan) Jensen of White Bear Lake and many other relatives. H
He was proceeded in death by his parents.
