Zelma Karen Haskell, 92 years old, passed away today at Staten Island Hospital, April 8th 2025 following a brief illness.
She was a resident of Clove Lakes nursing home in Staten Island for the last 8 years.
Karen, as she preferred to be called, is survived by her son and daughter in law Lloyd Haskell MD and Mary Jean Fusco MD of Flemington NJ. as well as her daughter and son in law Marla and David Kronish of Staten Island NY. She is also survived by her 2 grandchildren Bennet and Hunter Haskell. Her third grandchild William Haskell passed away in 2021.
Karen was married to Irwin Haskell, deceased (2003) for over 50 years.
She was born and raised in Brooklyn NY the youngest of 6 sisters of parents Louis and Rose Amsterdam, all of whom preceded her in death.
She was an avid music fan and especially enjoyed opera and operettas in particular those by Gilbert & Sullivan. She was also an avid reader, she would often quote poetry verses and passages from Shakespeare. She was a beloved aunt to her many nieces and nephews and was well liked by all who knew her. Her other hobbies included antique doll collecting and she accumulated over 100 dolls.
