BELLINGHAM - Lawrence W. Whitney, 75, of Bellingham, died Tuesday, May 15, 2007.
He was the husband of Betty K. (Kershner) Whitney for 53 years. Mr. and Mrs. Whitney were married July 11, 1953, in Farmington, Maine.
He was born in Wilton, Maine, the son of the late Raymond C. and Ruth (Wood) Whitney. He was a resident of Bellingham since 1969 and formerly of Wilton, Maine, where he was raised. He was a graduate of Wilton Academy in Wilton and attended the University of Maine, Orono.
He was an Eagle Scout.
He served 20 years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and Vietnam War, and held the rank of lieutenant colonel. He received the National Defense Service Medal, EOD Supervisor Badge and Good Conduct Medal.
He retired in 1973 from Natick Labs. As a civilian, he worked for 20 years for the Air Force Department of Defense, Hanscom Air Force Base, until retiring.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Milford and served on numerous committees.
Besides his wife, he leaves his children, Steven G. Whitney of Uxbridge, Pamela W. Perry and her husband, Walter, of Bellingham; sister, Beatrice Chandler of Dexter, Maine; grandchildren, Andrew, Evan, Katarina Whitney, Jessica Kaplan, Jason and Alyssa Perry; great-grandchildren, Aaron and Benjamin Kaplan.
