Robert Kingsley Whitaker, 83, of Midland died Saturday, April 15, 2006, at MidMichigan Medical Center.
The son of the late Laurence Edwin and Gailey Louise (Gibbs) Whitaker was born Jan. 3, 1923, in Ann Arbor.
Robert was raised in Wyoming, Ohio. He graduated from Severn High School, located in the city of Annapolis. He attended Cleveland College after serving in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.
On Feb. 9, 1945, Robert married the former Julianne Atwood in Cleveland, Ohio.
Robert worked in industrial sales for Bearing Distributors, 3-M Corporation, Federal Mogul, Amplex Division of Chrysler Corporation and retired from Beemer Engineering Co. in 1989 after 12 years of service. The Whitaker's moved to Midland in 2000. Robert was an avid sailor and most especially enjoyed sailing on the Chesapeake Bay. He was a member of the American Management Association, the Marine Corp. League and Chapel Lane Presbyterian Church.
Robert is survived by his wife of 61 years, Julianne; sons, Gregory (Sally) Whitaker of Au Gres, Douglas (Cynthia) Whitaker of Midland, and Jeffrey (Linda) Whitaker of Oak Park; daughter, Gail (Nick) Kepler of Saratoga, Calif.; grandchildren, Melissa Whitaker of Midland, Kristen (Andrew) Kozelouzek of Midland, Matthew (Megan) Whitaker of Canton, Ryan Whitaker of Oak Park, Eric Whitaker of Camp Pendleton, Calif., Britney Biggi, Scott Biggi and Jennifer Kepler all of Saratoga, Calif.; and great-grandson, David Robert Whitaker of Canton.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Scott; daughter, Holly; and brother, Donald Whitaker.
