CHARLES WELLMAN ATWOOD, age 87, of Tekonsha, MI, formerly of Bratenahl, OH, passed away November 22, 2007 in Marshall, MI.
He was born December 12, 1919 in Cleveland to Charles Reno and Helen P. (Skeel) Atwood.
He married Martha J. Hanson in 1942 and the marriage ended in divorce. He then married Louise D. (Boswell) McCardle in 1967, who survives.
Mr. Atwood graduated from Cleveland Heights High School in 1938 and Case School of Applied Science in 1942. He served on active duty with the Navy from 1944 to 1946 and remained in the Active Reserve until he retired from the Navy in 1970, as Commander. He has served as Vestry Member and Junior Warden of All Saints Episcopal Church in Parma Heights; as Vestry Member, Junior and Senior Warden of St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church, Mayfield Village. He was a Patron of Delta Omicron International Music Fraternity, charter member and first president of the Cleveland chapter of The Society of American Value Engineers, a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity, the Cleveland Engineering Society and an Eagle Scout in Boy Scout Troop 35, of Cleveland Heights. He retired from the Ocean Systems division of Gould, Inc. in 1985. He had also worked in the Accessories Division of TRW in Euclid. Mr. Atwood volunteered at the NASA Lewis Visitor Center, he had volunteered at the downtown office of UNICEF and at the Outreach Center, Christ Episcopal Church in Las Vegas, NV.
He is survived by his wife, Louise; sons, James and "Gerry" Atwood of Huntsville, AL, Robert L. Boswell of Glendale, AZ, daughters; the Rev. Barbara L. Pryor of Tekonsha, MI and Martha A. Owens of Willoughby, OH; four grandchildren, one great grandchild, and a sister Mrs. Julianne A. Whitaker (Mrs. Robert K.) of Midland, MI.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula L. McCar-dle, son-in-law, Richard L. Pryor, Sr. and a daughter-in-law, Karien Boswell.
