Andrew Gillette Warner died at home, Sunday afternoon, November 23, 2014. Andy was born in Rochester, NY on June 11, 1943, second son of Karl and Jane (Moore) Warner. He attended Colgate University, earning a BA in sociology, with a thesis documenting the racial unrest in Rochester in 1965.
Andy was a natural athlete nominated for all star teams for lacrosse in high school and college.He grew up skiing, and in his senior year won all events in his class at the NYS championships held at Lake Placid. He continued these interests, supporting son Karl's participation in football and lacrosse and daughter Page's participation in cross country skiing. He also shared a love of horses with his daughter, and they rode trails together.
Andy joined the training program at Sears and moved up through the store management, and to corporate problem solving projects in the Sears Tower in Chicago, when it was new. He left Sears to be a house husband and stay at home father for two years in Post Mills Vermont. His next career moves were with Brookstone, Pier One, Music Stand, and Musicians Friend. He brought his catalogue experience to consult in software sales and training at DataMann.
On August 26, 1967, he married Klaran McKusick. Their families shared common history in Winsted, CT, Andy's mother the gym teacher in a school superintended by Klaran's grandfather. Andy and Klaran attended rival Irondequoit, NY high schools, but the same Third Presbyterian Church. They decided to be engaged on the chair lift at Stowe, and skiing was special to both.
Andy and Klaran had a home for nearly 40 years in S. Strafford, VT. They also lived in Syracuse; Oil City, PA; Williamsport, PA; Clarendon Hills, IL; Hancock, NH; and Fort Worth, TX . Following retirement, they resided in Hanover, and then moved to Grantham, and have been at Eastman for four years.
Andy was treasurer for League of NH Craftsman for many years. He was instrumental in setting it up as a nonprofit He also continued with Board positions with Youth in Action, during, and long after, Page and Karl had graduated from Hanover High School . He was a member of Lions Club in Strafford, VT.
Andy is predeceased by his parents; his sister, Allison; and his brother-in-law, Leon McKusick.
He is survived by his wife, Klaran; daughter, Page (Grantham, NH) ; son, Karl, daughter-in-law Sarah (Kology), granddaughter, Lilian Belle, and grandson, Milo Benjamin, all of Simsbury CT. He also leaves a brother, Malcolm (Rochester, NY) and Mac's wife, Elizabeth (Barker) with their families of nieces and nephews. He has two surviving brothers-in-law, Karl McKusick (Ali) in Winfield, BC, Canada, and Gordon (Hatsy) in Ipswich, MA. His extended family includes the Brigagao family in San Paulo Brazil who treasure him as their American father, grandfather and friend.
